Americans Support U.S. Diplomacy to End the War in Ukraine

A new poll commissioned by the Quincy Institute reveals that Washington is out of step with Americans on diplomacy to end the war in Ukraine:

The poll, which was conducted in the week following Ukraine’s successful counteroffensive at Kharkiv, shows that Americans are dissatisfied with Washington’s lackluster efforts to advance a peaceful settlement.

A majority of American likely voters support U.S. pursuing negotiations “as soon as possible” to end the war in Ukraine, and nearly half believe the Biden administration and Congress need to do more diplomatically to help end the war.

As Washington considers new aid and prepares for a long war, it should recognize that Americans want to see an end to this brutal and bloody war, and dread the potential costs and impacts a drawn-out conflict may have on Ukrainians, Americans, and the world.

Data for Progress conducted this survey of 1,215 likely voters nationally using web panel respondents from September 16-19, 2022. The sample was weighted to be representative of likely voters by age, gender, education, race, and voting history. The survey was conducted in English. The margin of error is ±3 percentage points.
